Virtual enclaves, that is. Virtual land holdings in Upland make up the two enclaves.
The metaverse is at the nascent of virtual neighborhoods. These neighborhoods take on community characters of their own. Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) are reaching more people. Some, like Upland, offer virtual land development for location based play. With truer player ownership of in-game assets, Upland is at the forefront of virtually landed communities.
The Golf View Enclave in Kamms Corner and the Coastal Breeze Enclave of North Shore Collinwood are in Upland Cleveland. Upland Cleveland is divided into 31 neighborhoods. Some neighborhood layouts offer opportunities for smaller enclaves. These enclaves offer potential for more close knit community building.
I joined gameplay in Upland just before its pending Cleveland release. The final drop of virtual properties for Cleveland, barring late releases, occurred on July 8, 2021. For many, the game has a competitive land flipping edge. I find myself more intrigued by potential advantages to holding communities long term. That is my personal focus for the two enclaves.
Cleveland is a tier 2 city in Upland with half of its unminted properties designated as FSA or “fair start.” Chicago, in contrast, is one of Uplands three Tier 1 cities. So, Cleveland is more friendly to new users than some other Upland cities are.
North Shore Collinwood is the furthest northeast area of Upland Cleveland. The Coastal Breeze Enclave is at the northern tip of the neighborhood. It features freshwater beaches and a marina for this residential community.
The Golf View Enclave is in southwestern Upland Cleveland. It is an inland green-space enclave hugged by golf courses. The golf courses extend from the scenic Valley View Parkway that meanders along Rocky River. It is part of the Kamms Corner neighborhood.
Both enclaves are distant from higher priced downtown Cleveland. There, Upland’s high rollers wheel and deal. So, the enclaves are friendlier areas within a friendlier city for new players. The enclaves are great for those learning the ropes in Upland gameplay. With less than a month of gameplay, I count myself among its newer users.
Both enclaves are new. So, their community character and gameplay success arcs aren’t fixed yet. Further, building development on site has only reached west coast properties in Upland. Plans are for it to reach the east coast and Midwest cities in upcoming months. So, this begins the community journey for each enclave. More opportunity is coming.
The two enclaves do differ. One difference between the enclaves concerns founding emphasis. The Golf View Enclave has been founded to support creatives and creative types in greater Upland’s member base. The discord server for the Golf View Enclave is here.
The Coastal Breeze Enclave founding emphasizes a relaxing vibe and fun. Much of the enclave is along desirable waterfront. And, it offers a more remote game location than most other neighborhoods do. Upland has one of the highest user bases for online games. According to DappRadar, 150,000 unique users in the past 30 days are recorded. It has extensive social interaction through discord and other social networking options. Opportunity for community development is extensive.
I have virtual property in both enclaves. I plan to follow and report how each develops compared to each other, their neighborhoods, Upland Cleveland, and Upland as a whole. I hope to take part in a fun and worthwhile online community while doing so.
It is an exciting time for virtual land asset based gaming. For this endeavor, only hindsight will reveal whether this is “the best of times.”
